Prior to floating on the NASDAQ, Pixelworks wanted a cost-effective way of covering Europe, a region with no critical revenue mass at that time. Firefly undertook to cover Europe for them. We increased their turnover in the region from $3m to $28m in just five years.
How did we achieve this phenomenal growth? Our close, incipient relationship with Pixelworks afforded us the insight required to manage the young company's business from one stage of growth to the next. Pixelworks then entered the TV market – a new departure for them and for us at the time. Our mutual successes within this market have subsequently resulted in Firefly building high-level relationships with all major TV manufacturers in Europe; this in turn has provided a blueprint for our approaching new market sectors – something we enjoy.
The lessons learned, and success enjoyed, with Pixelworks have been valuable in building our relationship with California based Maxlinear – another start-up that has successfully floated on the NYSE (and one of the few to do so during the global downturn). Firefly has subsequently been instrumental in growing Maxlinear's Northern European sales revenue in the DVB-T market, and thus being instrumental in Maxlinear's ongoing growth.
